Welcome Back to the Enlightened Entertainer!

As I get busier with more and bigger projects, and the demands of the world – and business – press in upon me, I find myself requiring more time in silent contemplation to maintain my center, remember my purpose, and stay connected to my creative vision.

Dealing with the daily minutiae of business -- organizing, scheduling, marketing, negotiating, engaging in the occasional creative or professional duel – it’s easy to lose touch with that essential spark of inspiration that set you on this path to begin with, to get so caught up in business-as-usual, cranking out your daily script pages (or whatever quota you have as an artist and professional), that you feel drained rather than enriched at the end of the day.

Sometimes, in the thick of it all, you might find yourself pining for a simpler, more spacious life, a renewed and more intimate relationship to your art, to your authentic path. Or, worse, you might look back and realize you've completely lost touch with your creative core, your passion projects, the real reason why you’re here.

I know I’ve been there. And in the midst of this busy time for me, I still find myself needing to guard my creative heart from my own proclivity to abandon it in favor of more immediate worldly needs – like making money, paying bills, and keeping up with the joneses!

Many of us have suffered (or are currently suffering) from a ‘broken art’ in one way or another. Some of us have healed it to a greater or lesser extent, but for most of us the wound is still tender. I don’t know, maybe it will always be; maybe that’s part of the vulnerability we need to keep us humble and connected to our humanity. Nevertheless, if it’s not dealt with consciously and with care, it can become like a scorned lover that secretly sabotages our potential to truly succeed.

In this issue, we’ll examine this further in my article, “Opening Your Art”. I invite you to not only read it, but to allow it to penetrate your own heart and soul, and open you up to fresh insights about your own path and purpose, and how you can grow to fulfill it beyond your wildest imagination!

OPENING YOUR ART

The “War of Art”

As conscious artists and enlightened-entertainers-in-training, we have to fight a never-ending battle for our art. Or so it seems. Our implements of war are not guns and bombs, but awareness and attention. And the only enemy we ever truly have to face is “the enemy within our own household.” (Mystically speaking, this refers to our consciousness.) Finally, the greatest “act of war” we can take is to “be still and know,” to “take our bloated nothingness out of the path of the divine circuits,” as Emerson would say.

Still, we fight skirmishes almost daily. Mapping out the terrain we want to conquer. “Humping it” through the jungles of our mind, where voices echo from behind every tree. Trudging through the thicket of our heart, where a firefight of unresolved emotions threatens to cut us down at every turn. Slugging through the swampland of our soul, where strange and terrifying creatures stir just beneath the murky depths.

And this is just to get out of bed!
